Blast from the Past

Driving through "Old Hilliard" yesterday afternoon I passed Dairy Quesn. I know why does anyone ever PASS a Dairy Queen and NOT stop. Well - I am practicing control..... Sort of...ha! On their sign they were advertising the ONE ice cream concoction I have not been able to replicate ever - the ORANGE JULIUS. Yes, if you remember this great little store tucked into malls here in the Midwest you know how awesome this is! So as I mentioned control I plan on controlling myself long enough today to let those going to work get there. THEN I want to take my kids there to experience an Orange Julius. I hope Dairy Queen has this recipe perfected for the sak of all of us looking for a trip down memory lane and arcade heaven with the sweet citrus sip of this long time treat. In good Kelly style is I can replicate it in my own kitchen I will add a future comment with my findings. It is after all in the name of science!

Spring in the kitchen

I know for most the 3rd day of Spring on our calendars is in reality winter behaving like a guest that refuses to leave!

I hear people talking about cleaning windows, spring cleaning, and eager to open up windows to let fresh air in to "air out" winter. One of the over looked projects is to clean your refrigerator and freezer.

Here are some quick cleaning tips for your fridge - try to do one a night while you are waiting for a part if dinner to be ready.

1. Go through and check the expiration date on ALL condiments and dressings. If they are still "ok". Take a clean paper title and quickly wipe off the spout or area under a cap before returning it to its place.

2. Pull out a refrigerator shelves and spray a disinfectant on them to ensure they are clean before putting then back in

3. Remember FIFO?? First In - First Out. Create a clean refrigerator where you pull items that where there first forward and when you come home from the grocery store you place newly bought food BEHIND this already in place food. This ensures you'll use food before it goes bad or gets forgotten!!

4. While your in there don't forget to look at efficiency - can you rearrange shelves to empower a growing child to get their own healthy snack? We recently did a 180 in our refrigerator and now my 7 and 9 year old can get a glass of milk solo!!

5. Repeat these steps with the freezer. Don't forget that bacteria doesn't due in the freezer it just hibernates - you must take care when preparing it?!

I would LOVE to show you how amazing 3 pieces of Tupperware are for reorganizing your refrigerator. EMAIL ME AT tupperkelly@icloud.com.

Not only can we get your refrigerator a proud appliance to have others peek into but I can share with you how to do it for FREE!!

Celebrations

Today we celebrated our daughters 7th Birthday. Like all good parents I wanted to make her day at school feel special. I am an huge advocate for having healthy celebrations especially in the classroom.

I asked my daughters teacher to give the class a 10 minute extra recess at the end if the day in honor of Katie. She loved the idea. It was cold today and they had to stay in so the teacher organized a dance party and it was a blast!!

To make sure she had something to pass out to her class - I wrote a poem about the number 7 and we attached it to bright paper. Then we tied the paper with fancy string to a bottle of water. They looked festive and there were no allergy worries or mess to clean up!!

I LOVE creating alternative ways to celebrate. If you want or need ideas let me know - I would LOVE to help!!
